Upgrading php to php 5.5 (currently stable version)

- apt-get install python-software-properties

- apt-get upgrade
- apt-get dist-upgrade
You do get option to replace your apache2.conf file, but I would select to keep your old version. In this instance, upon starting Apache, you MAY get error relating to httpd.conf and Lockfile statements. Just comment both of them out of apache.conf, and Apache will start fine.
I remember when this first appeared in 2001. There are a host of other tracking features with the service now, but the core self destruction email service that this started on is still of most interest. On a childish level, you can send insulting emails and set them to delete within certain timeframe after opening. Cue funny “I swear I saw it” type scenarios. It is impossible for clients to work out all the features they need from an application prior to development. This is the strengths of Agile and the ongoing review process. Bugs come in all forms, and developers take great joy from rejecting bugs as “as specified” or simply “won’t fix” due to development complications. This is not an approach to take overall – bugs can lead to very useful feature improvements, and the benefit is that your client will appreciate what they see as free consultancy. Rather than just stick your head in requirements sand, be Agile and always be ready to incorporate new ideas into the development stream. Continue reading
Another nifty service, utlising APML. Signup and simple (as anything post web 2.0 should be), but you will need a myopenid. Once signed up, you’ll be prompted to enter in your myopenid, to sync up the two accounts. From then on, you can add feeds/webpages to generate your APML file. The point of having a (or multiple) APML file, to to provide prifiling information. Unlike other methods employed by other sites (inlcuding Facebook), using your profile information by default rather than by choice_, you remain in control of your information. How and when it is updated, and most importantly, when you want to share it.
Unfortunately, generating the APML is fraught with "server application error" messages, when you attempt to generate, but such is the way with new technologies. I still receommend keeping on this wave …
